Ulrich Woitek is a Professor of Economics and Director of Undergraduate Studies at the University of Zurich's Department of Economics. His research focuses on Economic History, Business Cycles, and Applied Macroeconomics with notable contributions in anthropometrics and historical monetary policy analysis. He holds degrees from the University of Munich (Diplom-Volkswirt, 1990; Dr. oec. publ., 1996). His work spans studies on Swedish monetary policy during the 1930s, pandemic survivorship bias, and long-term anthropometric trends in Switzerland and Germany.
Key research interests include the intersection of health metrics (e.g., height, BMI) with socioeconomic factors and historical economic policies. His recent publications explore the anthropometric history of Swiss mercenaries and mortality patterns in 19th-century Switzerland. He teaches courses such as the Econ Faculty Lunch Seminar and supervises doctoral research through the Doktoratskolloquium.
