Tyondai Braxton is an Assistant Professor of Music at Princeton University's Department of Music. Specializing in experimental composition, electronic music, and orchestral innovation, he teaches undergraduate and graduate courses. Former frontman of Battles, Braxton transitioned to solo work in 2010, creating acclaimed works like Central Market and HIVE. His music blends electronic elements with orchestral arrangements, performed by ensembles such as the BBC Symphony Orchestra and Kronos Quartet. He has collaborated with Philip Glass and visual artist Thomas Demand.
Braxton’s academic contributions include involvement with the Princeton Sound Kitchen, a platform for new music creation. His commissions include works for the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra and Alarm Will Sound. He holds residencies at institutions like Public Records in Brooklyn and is part of Princeton’s vibrant composition program emphasizing interdisciplinary and electronic music exploration.
