Fr. Tyler Kreipke, C.S.C., Ph.D., serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering within the Shiley School of Engineering at the University of Portland. A member of the 2025 new faculty cohort, he uniquely integrates his priesthood in the Congregation of Holy Cross with academic life. Ordained in April 2024, Kreipke aims to educate students not only as skilled engineers but as virtuous individuals committed to serving the common good. His presence enriches the university's mission of fostering human flourishing through engineering education.
Dr. Kreipke's educational background includes:
- Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, with a concentration in biomaterials and a minor in German.
- Doctorate in Bioengineering from the University of Notre Dame, where his research focused on bone mechanobiology.
- Master of Divinity from the seminary at Notre Dame, completed in spring 2023.
Building on his doctoral work in bone mechanobiology, Kreipke's research interests center on biomechanics and biomaterials within biomedical engineering. His expertise in the mechanical properties of biological tissues, particularly bone, positions him to contribute to advancements in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. At the University of Portland, he is expected to develop research that bridges mechanical engineering principles with biological applications, fostering innovation in healthcare solutions.
Kreipke is deeply committed to mentoring students beyond technical skills, emphasizing character development and service. His dual vocation as a priest and engineer informs his holistic approach to education, aiming to cultivate engineers who are both technically proficient and ethically grounded. He seeks to guide students toward becoming agents of positive change in society.
