Ty Shang

Ty Shang, M.D., Ph.D., is a Professor in the Department of Neurology and Neurotherapeutics at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, where he has been since 2012. He specializes in cerebrovascular diseases, vascular neurology, and stroke treatment/prevention. His research focuses on inflammatory and infectious mechanisms in cerebrovascular disorders, including Moyamoya disease, CADASIL, and cerebral amyloid angiopathy. He employs advanced neuroimaging techniques, particularly high-resolution MR vessel wall imaging, to study pathophysiological mechanisms and therapeutic targets.

Dr. Shang holds a medical degree from Shandong University (China) and a Ph.D. from the Medical College of Wisconsin. He completed neurology residency at the University of Miami and fellowships in neuroscience at NIH and vascular neurology at the University of Miami. His clinical and research contributions span stroke imaging protocols, endovascular therapy optimization, and understanding rare cerebrovascular disorders.

His publications emphasize translational research bridging imaging biomarkers with clinical outcomes, particularly in stroke prevention and treatment.
