Troy King

Troy King serves as a Teaching Professor and Head of the Guitar Program at Towson University within the Department of Music in the College of Fine Arts and Communication. He is an accomplished guitarist with an international performance career spanning the United States, Europe, and Latin America.

King holds degrees from the Cleveland Institute of Music/Case Western Reserve University and The Lamont School of Music/University of Denver, where he studied under John Holmquist and Ricardo Iznaola, with additional instruction from Gilbert Biberian in England. His academic journey has prepared him to teach guitar lessons, ensembles, accompaniment, history, pedagogy, and guitar class.

As a performer, King specializes in classical guitar repertoire with particular expertise in Latin American compositions. His research interests focus on artistic interpretation of musical scores, technical proficiency development, and music notation understanding as applied to classical guitar performance. He has released critically acclaimed recordings including 'Musique de Salon: Classical Guitar Music for a New Belle Epoque' and 'Musica del Arte: Masterworks for Guitar by Latin American Composers,' which received praise from Classical Guitar Magazine and The American Record Guide.

He frequently performs with the Arabesque Duo, which features transcriptions of piano works by composers including Grieg, Brahms, Debussy, Granados and Turina. His performances have been featured on BBC and National Public Radio, and he has given concerts at major venues across London, New York City, Boston, Philadelphia, Mexico City, and other international locations.
