Jeff LaQuatra serves as a Senior Lecturer of Music Biography at Colorado State University, where he directs the guitar program and teaches applied music, chamber music, guitar classes for music therapy majors, and history of rock and roll. An acclaimed classical guitarist, he maintains an active performance schedule both as a soloist and chamber musician.
His educational background includes a Bachelor of Music from The Cleveland Institute of Music and a Master of Music from The University of Denver, where he served as a graduate teaching assistant under primary instructors Mary Lou Roberts, John Holmquist, and Ricardo Iznaola.
LaQuatra's artistic focus centers on classical guitar performance and contemporary repertoire, highlighted by world-premiere recordings of commissioned works. His research interests extend to chamber music collaboration and the historical analysis of rock and roll. As co-founder of Quatra Duo with flutist Michelle Stanley, he explores cross-instrumental dialogue in modern compositions.
Notable accolades include Colorado State University's 2022 Excellence in Teaching Award and multiple competition victories, including the 1996 Oswald Rantucci Guitar Competition. His recordings have received critical acclaim from Classical Guitar Magazine and Gramophone Magazine.
LaQuatra actively performs with ensembles including Denver's Mountain Chamber Music Society, the Boulder Philharmonic Orchestra, and Colorado's Central City Opera. The Quatra Duo completed a six-concert tour of China in 2019 and released the critically praised album "Painted Music" in 2020 featuring works by Osvaldo Golijov and Phillip Houghton.
