Dr. Troy Feay is an Associate Professor of History at Belmont Abbey College. He specializes in Modern France, Modern Africa, European Imperialism, Slavery and Antislavery, and the History of Christianity and Christian Missions. His research includes a dissertation on religious and cultural dynamics in French colonies and studies on French abolitionism. Feay holds a PhD in History from the University of Notre Dame, alongside MAs in European History and Theology, and a B.S. in Theology from Taylor University. He has conducted fieldwork in Sierra Leone and studied in Brazil and the Dominican Republic.
Feay teaches a wide array of courses, including Western Civilizations, Modern Europe, African History, and specialized topics like 'The Crucifix and the Swastika: Christianity and Fascism.' He is known for blending rigorous scholarship with engaging pedagogy, as highlighted by student praise for his approachable style and ability to connect historical themes to contemporary issues.
His research projects extend beyond publications to include studies on decolonization in the Congo, land use in Vietnam, and the D-Day decision. Presentations at conferences such as the Society for French Historical Studies and the French Colonial Historical Society reflect his expertise in colonial history and religious-political intersections.
