Trina Jones is the Jerome M. Culp Distinguished Professor of Law at Duke University's School of Law, serving since 2018. She specializes in racial, socio-economic, and gender inequality, particularly in workplace contexts. Her research focuses on colorism, intersectionality, sexual harassment, and critical race theory. Jones directs the Center on Law, Race & Policy and teaches courses like Race and the Law, Employment Discrimination, and Critical Race Theory. She has held tenured positions at Duke Law since 2001 and previously co-founded the University of California, Irvine School of Law's Center on Law, Equality and Race.
Education: J.D. (with honors) from University of Michigan Law School (1991), A.B. in Government from Cornell University (1988). Awards include Duke Law's Distinguished Teaching Award (2019) and the Gavel Award from the Black Law Students Association (2019). Current roles include Chair of Duke University Academic Council and leadership in multiple University committees focusing on diversity and faculty governance.
Her research spans legal analysis of racial and class disparities, with notable works examining DNA ancestry testing's societal impact, workplace sexual harassment through an intersectional lens, and legal frameworks addressing colorism. Recent grants include funding for oral history projects on Critical Race Theory and scholarship initiatives at Duke's CLRP.
