Travis Wearne is a Senior Lecturer at Macquarie University's School of Psychological Sciences and a member of the Lifespan Health and Wellbeing Research Centre. He previously held roles as Senior Lecturer in Clinical Neuropsychology at Western Sydney University (2021–2024) and Research Fellow at the University of New South Wales (2016–2021). He is also a Consultant Neuropsychologist with Legal Psychology Group Australia since November 2017.
Dr. Wearne earned a Doctor of Philosophy/Master of Clinical Neuropsychology from Macquarie University in 2015, focusing on 'Inhibitory Regulation of the Prefrontal Cortex in an Animal Model of Methamphetamine Behavioural Sensitization.' His research spans neuropsychology, traumatic brain injury (TBI), social cognition, emotion processing, and addiction. Notable areas include the biopsychosocial impacts of TBI on apathy, aggression, and communication deficits, as well as the neurochemical mechanisms underlying methamphetamine-related psychoses.
His recent work emphasizes the assessment of decision-making capacity in older adults, resilience in post-concussive symptom reporting, and interventions targeting social cognition deficits in disorders like hoarding and anorexia nervosa. Collaborations include studies on gender, attitudes, and emotional empathy, funded by projects such as 'Responding to Dementia-Related Assaults: Third Party Reporting.'
Dr. Wearne has received prestigious awards, including the Australian Psychological Society's Excellent PhD Thesis Award (2016), the International Neuropsychological Society's Leadership Award (2021), and multiple recognitions for research presentations. His work is widely cited, reflecting contributions to clinical neuropsychology and neurorehabilitation.
