Dr. David A. Kaufman is an Associate Professor in the Psychology Department at Saint Louis University's College of Arts and Sciences, where he serves as Clinical Graduate Director. His research specializes in clinical neuropsychology with emphasis on traumatic brain injury (TBI), Parkinson's disease, and cognitive aging. He applies neuroimaging and event-related potential (ERP) methodologies to investigate executive function, error processing, and attention mechanisms.
His clinical research examines socio-emotional functioning in autism spectrum disorders, perseverative errors in Alzheimer's patients, and mood-cognition interactions in neurological conditions. Notable contributions include characterizing conflict adaptation deficits post-TBI and validating neuropsychological assessment tools.
Analysis of Kaufman's 13 most recent publications reveals consistent focus on: 1) Neural correlates of cognitive control across neurological conditions, 2) Age-related changes in attention and executive function, and 3) Clinical applications of ERP biomarkers. Collaborative work includes multicenter studies on Parkinson's-related apathy and TBI rehabilitation outcomes.
He supervises graduate research through the Clinical Psychology program, emphasizing translational neuroscience. Current investigations explore novelty processing in aging populations and neurocognitive outcomes following social skills interventions in ASD.
