Tracy Heavner is a Professor of Music at the University of South Alabama, specializing in saxophone, instrumental music education, and jazz studies. With a 30-year tenure, he coordinates music education courses, supervises student teachers, and serves as a liaison to the College of Education.

Dr. Heavner is an internationally recognized performer and educator, active in both classical and jazz genres. He has performed globally, including at Carnegie Hall and the Montreux Jazz Festival, and authored two influential books: Sight Singing and Rhythmic Reading and Saxophone Secrets.
His scholarly work spans over 100 publications in journals like the Saxophone Journal and the International Journal of Arts and Sciences. Awards include multiple Artist Fellowship Awards from the Alabama State Council for the Arts and recognition as Phi Kappa Phi Artist of the Year.
Dr. Heavner also maintains a prominent private studio, mentoring middle/high school saxophonists, flutists, and clarinetists who excel in honor ensembles nationwide. He adjudicates at major festivals and serves as a Fulbright Scholar Training Specialist.
