He leads a research group focused on the interplay between technology, diversity, and social governance.
- Doctor of Philosophy, Goethe University Frankfurt (2010)
- Diploma in Sociology, Goethe University Frankfurt (2005)
His research interests center on the social framing of medical, genetic, and neuroscientific developments. He employs qualitative methods such as ethnography, interviews, and document analysis to examine how scientific knowledge is transformed from discovery to public discourse. A major theme is the role of DNA analysis in immigration and family reunification, and the societal consequences of neuroscientific 'hype'.
The most recent publications reflect a strong focus on forensic DNA technologies, polygraph testing, genetic data donation, and the reconfiguration of mental health through biotechnology. These works span disciplines including sociology of law, bioethics, migration studies, and public understanding of science.
Scientific recognition includes being shortlisted for the Opus Primum Prize in 2012 for his book Populäre Wissenschaften: Hirnforschung zwischen Labor und Talkshow.
He has advised numerous collaborative research projects and has extensive international partnerships with institutions such as UC Berkeley, King’s College London, and KU Leuven. He has held fellowships including the prestigious Marie Curie Fellowship. His work often involves interdisciplinary teams and critical engagement with science policy.
He leads research on biotechnologies and mental health and has co-edited volumes on DNA analysis in immigration and the sociotechnical control of migration. His lab and research group engage in critical analysis of emerging technologies and their integration into societal institutions.
