Torgeir Opeland Røthe is an Associate Professor and Assistant Head of Department at the Department of Civil Engineering and Environmental Sciences, Western Norway University of Applied Sciences. His research focuses on Quaternary geology, paleoclimate, glaciers, and geohazards.

Dr. Røthe currently teaches Introduction to geology (GE406) and Climate Change (GE483). His research group focuses on Landslides and Glaciers.
His scientific work shows a strong trend toward understanding climate change impacts through geological evidence, particularly using lake sediments as archives of past environmental conditions. His research spans Arctic and sub-Arctic regions, focusing on how glaciers, landslides, and other geological processes respond to climate variations.
His educational background includes:
- PhD in Earth Science from the University of Bergen (2014-2018), with thesis on "Reconstruction of palaeoenvironmental variations from lacustrine sediments in sub-Arctic and Arctic lakes, and their climatic implications"
- Master's in Quaternary Geology and Paleoclimate from the University of Bergen (2011-2013), with thesis on "Reconstruction of late holocene glacier and climate variability from the distal glacier-fed lake Kløsa at Mitrahalvøya, Spitsbergen"
