Dr. Tora Laszlo is a Research Professor at the Institut de Génétique et de Biologie Moléculaire et Cellulaire (IGBMC) in Strasbourg, France. He has held leadership roles, including Research Director (DRCE1) at CNRS since 2011 and Coordinator of the Transcription Department (2002–2005). His research focuses on RNA polymerase II transcription mechanisms, chromatin modification, and epigenetics. He has been recognized with prestigious awards, including the CNRS Silver Medal and an ERC Advanced Grant.
Education:
- MSc in Biology, Eötvös Loránd University (1982)
- PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Frédéric Joliot Curie National Institute (1985)
Research Interests: Dr. Laszlo’s work explores the molecular mechanisms of transcription initiation, TFIID/SAGA complexes, histone acetylation pathways, and their roles in epigenetic regulation. His studies address how transcriptional machinery interacts with chromatin to regulate gene expression and genomic stability.
Grants and Awards:
- ERC Advanced Grant (2013): €2.5M for the 'BIRTOACTION' project
- EMBO Membership (2001)
- Hungarian Academy of Sciences Exterior Member (2010)
Labs and Teams: As a Group Leader at IGBMC since 1994, he leads a team studying transcriptional regulation mechanisms. His lab employs biochemical, structural, and genomic approaches to dissect the interplay between transcription and chromatin dynamics.
