معرفی
Marc Timmers is a DKTK Professor of Medical Epigenetics at Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg. Previously, he served as a Full Professor at the Center for Molecular Medicine (UMCU) affiliated with Utrecht University, Netherlands, where he established teaching programs in Epigenetics and Gene Regulation. His research focuses on the molecular mechanisms of epigenetic control in transcription initiation, particularly in cancer contexts.
- Education: BSc in Chemistry (University of Amsterdam), MSc in Chemistry (Leiden University)
- Key collaborations: Extended network in epigenetics and chromatin signaling
His work combines quantitative proteomics, genomics, biochemistry, and cell biology to study histone methylation dynamics and chromatin regulation. Recent efforts aim to develop therapeutic modalities targeting chromatin signaling pathways.
The Timmers group has contributed to understanding the TFIID complex, H3K4 methylation, and the role of MEN1 in breast cancer susceptibility. His publications span topics like transcription machinery, chromatin topology, and protein complex assembly.
Honors and Awards
- NWO Pionier Award (1998-2003)
- 2016 Distinguished Speaker appointments
- 2016 Keynote Lecture invitations
Timmers has led graduate schools in Cancer, Stem Cells & Development and the Bijvoet School for Biomolecular Research. His research bridges basic molecular biology with translational applications in cancer detection and therapy.
