Prof. Tony Velkov is a leading expert in antibiotic pharmacology at Monash University (Department of Pharmacology, Clayton) and an Adjunct Principal Research Fellow at the University of Melbourne's Department of Biochemistry and Pharmacology. His research focuses on developing novel antimicrobial agents against drug-resistant superbugs, including lipopeptides, teixobactin, and polymyxins. He leads the Victorian Antimicrobial Discovery Group and co-founded the Global Initiative on Antimicrobial Computational Pharmacology. He has secured $27M+ in grants from NIH, NHMRC, and international bodies, and published over 240 papers. His work addresses UN SDG 3 (Good Health) through innovations in antibiotic discovery and resistance mechanisms.
