معرفی
Professor Mark Blaskovich is an Associate Professor in the School of Chemistry and Molecular Biosciences at The University of Queensland and serves as Director of Translation at the Institute for Molecular Bioscience (IMB). He co-founded the Centre for Superbug Solutions and the Community for Open Antimicrobial Drug Discovery (CO-ADD), leading global initiatives to combat antimicrobial resistance. His research focuses on developing novel antibiotics, diagnostic tools, and non-antibiotic therapies targeting drug-resistant pathogens.
Education: BSc (Honours) in Science (Advanced) from the University of Victoria (Canada) and a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Waterloo (Canada). Over 15 years of industrial drug development experience prior to academia.
Research Interests: Antibiotic discovery, antimicrobial resistance mechanisms, fluorescent probes for bacterial detection, and translational solutions to superbugs. Emphasis on drug-resistant Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria, fungal infections, and innovative diagnostics.
Grants & Funding: Over $10M in grants, including ARC Training Centres, NHMRC Development Grants, and international collaborations. Active in UQ-industry partnerships for antibiotic development.
Supervision: Mentors multiple PhD/Master’s students in antibiotic potentiators, drug design, and antimicrobial diagnostics. Completed supervision includes studies on antibiotic conjugates, biofilm disruption, and bacterial resistance profiling.
Labs & Teams: Leads the 'Superdrugs vs Superbugs' research group at IMB, focusing on multidisciplinary approaches combining medicinal chemistry, microbiology, and computational methods. Collaborates with global networks to advance AMR solutions.
