Tony Hardin is the Executive Producer and current director of the School of Theatre and Dance at Kent State University, where he oversees operations at Porthouse Theatre. Previously, he served as a faculty member at the University of Kentucky and an assistant professor at Longwood University, contributing to scenic and lighting design education.

His research focuses on theatre education, scenic design, and lighting design, with practical experience in stage management and scenic painting. He has designed for notable productions such as Ma Rainey's Black Bottom and Cabaret, and has worked nationally and internationally in venues like Cincinnati Shakespeare Company and Operafest Internacionale in Italy.
Hardin received the Marvin Simms Design Fellowship at the Kennedy Center/American College Theatre Festival (KC/ACTF) in 2006, allowing him to collaborate with Broadway designers Ming Cho Lee and Constance Hoffman. He also serves on the Board of Directors for the United States Institute for Theatre Technology.
