Dr. Tao Shen is an Assistant Professor at Kent State University's College of Aeronautics & Engineering, leading the Advanced Medical Robot Lab (AMRLab). He specializes in surgical robots, smart walkers, and wire-driven systems. With a Ph.D. from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, his work focuses on enhancing medical device functionality through mechanical design and machine learning.
Research includes robotic walkers for mobility assistance, noncircular pulley mechanisms for motion decoupling, and calibration methods for neural diagnostics. He received the 2024-2025 Undergraduate Research Mentoring Award and holds NIH/NSF funding. Articles reflect innovations in assistive robotics and biomedical instrumentation.
