Professor Tony Cass is a Professor of Chemical Biology at Imperial College London's Department of Chemistry and Institute of Biomedical Engineering. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry and Society of Biology. His research focuses on analytical biotechnology, biosensors, and microfabricated devices, with applications in clinical and environmental analysis. Key projects include pioneering electronic blood glucose measurement systems (commercialized by Abbott Diagnostics) and developing microneedle-based biosensors for real-time drug monitoring and diagnostics.
Education: Degrees from the Universities of York and Oxford in chemistry. Affiliations include the Agri Futures Lab, CDT in Chemical Biology, CRUK Convergence Science Centre, and Institute of Chemical Biology. He has founded Bio Nano Consulting Ltd. and AquAffirm, and advises companies like PlastiCell and SabiliTech. Over 150 papers and 3 books to date, with editorial roles in Nanobioscience and IET Proceedings Nanobiotechnology.
Research interests span engineered proteins/nucleic acids in nanomaterials, antimicrobial optimization, and sensor-driven healthcare. Awards include the Royal Society Mullard Medal (with Prof. Hill and Dr. Green) and Chemical Landmark Award.
