Tommy Wong is a Lecturer at LASALLE College of the Arts, specializing in Theatre Production and Design. With nearly 30 years of teaching experience, he has co-facilitated foundation courses in Technical Theatre at Esplanade Theatre on the Bay and served as the founding chairman of the Hong Kong Association of Theatre Technicians and Scenographers. He is a member of the International Organisation of Scenographers Theatre Architects and Technicians.
Education: Diploma in Theatre Production and Management, Master of Fine Arts in Theatre Design from Purchase College, State University of New York, USA. He received fellowships including the British Council Scholarship (studying at Royal National Theatre under Tony Bond) and Asian Cultural Council Fellowship (Yale University School of Drama).
Research interests focus on Lighting Design for Dance in Asia (20th Century) and Ancient Stage Technology in China. Notable achievements include the Best Set Design 文华奖 (Culture) Award for Shenzhen Story and multiple Best Lighting Design accolades in Hong Kong. He led the Research and Practice Lighting Design Workshop with Asian Youth Dance in Hong Kong (2012).
Key creative works span over 200 productions across Asia, Europe, and the US, including lighting design for Tan Dun’s opera Tea, Jacky Cheung’s musical Snow, and the Chingay Parade series. His expertise bridges traditional and contemporary theatre technologies.
