Tomas Carroll

Dr. Tomas Carroll is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Medicine at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI). He holds a PhD in Airway Inflammation from RCSI and has over two decades of experience in research and clinical practice focused on alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency (AATD). His roles include Chief Scientist at Alpha-1 Foundation Ireland and coordinator of the National AATD Targeted Detection Programme, which has screened over 19,000 individuals. His research spans molecular mechanisms of lung disease, clinical outcomes in AATD, and translational applications of ER stress pathways. He has authored over 130 publications and secured grants from institutions like the Alpha-1 Foundation and RCSI. Awards include the Geraldine Roberts Medal (2008) and European Alpha-1 Laurell’s Training Award (2007).
