Tom Youngman is a Research Fellow in Sustainable Food Economics and Associate Lecturer in Economics at the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol), affiliated with the School of Applied Sciences and the Department of Accounting, Economics and Finance. He collaborates with the University of Oxford and the University of York, and contributes to the UKRI Agrifood for Net Zero Network+.

His research focuses on ecological economics, climate change mitigation policies, and food-land systems, utilizing agent-based modeling and participatory action research. He explores distributional impacts of climate policies and bridges agricultural economics with food systems science.
At UWE, he teaches Microeconomics, Food Systems, and Applied Microeconomics, emphasizing community-driven projects. His work involves policy analysis for the UK government’s Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) and international representation at OECD, EU, and WTO working groups.
He is actively engaged in interdisciplinary collaborations, including the development of participatory models for sustainable agrifood systems and macroeconomic frameworks for climate resilience.
