Dr. Tom Wanyama is an Associate Professor at the W Booth School of Engineering Practice and Technology, McMaster University, since 2012. He also serves as Associate Member in the Departments of Mechanical and Civil Engineering. As Program Chair for BTech Automation Engineering Technology, he leads academic programs focusing on Industry 4.0 and industrial systems integration.
His research expertise spans Automation Engineering Technology, Engineering Design, and Energy systems. He directs the Learning Factory, a state-of-the-art facility simulating advanced manufacturing environments. Notable achievements include a Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Scholarship (2018) for maternal health research in Uganda.
Teaching responsibilities include courses such as PROCTECH 4AS3/4IC3/4MH3 and MECH ENG 761, emphasizing industrial networks, machine health monitoring, and system interoperability. His professional engineering credentials (P.Eng.) in Alberta and Ontario reflect industry relevance.
Prior to academia, he led packaging equipment development at DuPont Canada. Community engagement includes advocating for maternal health initiatives in Uganda and fostering diversity through Black History Month events at McMaster.
