Dr. Tom Najem is a Professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Windsor. He holds a Ph.D. from Durham University (UK, 1997), and M.A. and B.A. degrees from the University of Windsor (1993 and 1991). His research focuses on Middle Eastern politics, international intervention in civil conflicts, and track two diplomacy, with a specific emphasis on the Responsibility to Protect (R2P) framework and media analysis. He collaborates extensively on projects like the Jerusalem Old City Initiative, addressing governance, security, and cultural heritage in contested urban spaces.
He teaches courses including Comparative Politics, Politics of the Developing World, and International Conflict Resolution. His work bridges academia and policy, producing both peer-reviewed publications and policy-relevant research. Key publications include Historical Dictionary of Lebanon (2021) and multiple co-authored works on Jerusalem and R2P (2017).
Dr. Najem’s research initiatives emphasize interdisciplinary approaches to conflict resolution, combining diplomatic strategies with media analysis. His recent work highlights the role of non-state actors and civil society in peacebuilding processes.
