Tom Muir is a Distinguished Artist Professor and Area Head of Jewelry and Metalsmithing at Bowling Green State University's School of Art, where he has taught since 1991. He earned his MFA from Indiana University (1985) and BVA from Georgia State University (1982).
His artistic practice focuses on traditional and digital approaches to jewelry and metalsmithing, with teaching spanning beginning to graduate levels. Notable achievements include:
- Inclusion in prestigious collections: Art Institute of Chicago, Smithsonian Renwick Gallery
- 500+ national/international exhibitions including Beijing International Jewelry Art Exhibition
- Recognition as Distinguished Member of Society of North American Goldsmiths
Significant honors include the Ohio Designer Craftsmen Outstanding Achievement Award (2009), Arts Midwest/NEA Fellowship, and multiple Ohio Arts Council Fellowships.
