Sharon Massey is a Professor of Jewelry and Metals, and Computer-Aided Design + Digital Fabrication at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, within the Department of Art and Design in the College of Arts, Humanities, Media, and Public Affairs. She has progressed through the academic ranks from Assistant Professor (2014-2019) to Associate Professor (2019-2024) and is now a full Professor (2024-present).
Her research focuses on historical jewelry and adornment as well as innovative approaches to education and making with emerging technologies. Professor Massey is a metalsmith, jeweler and enamelist whose artwork has been exhibited in over 100 juried and invitational exhibitions worldwide, including venues such as the Tokyo Museum of Art in Japan and the Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian American Art Museum. Her work is included in eleven major public collections including the Museum of Fine Arts Boston and the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
Professor Massey co-founded Local X Change, a collaboration with artist Sean Derry that democratizes art and technology through public projects combining design, technology and civic engagement, and also co-founded STEAMSHOP, an interdisciplinary digital fabrication lab at IUP. She has been invited to teach workshops at prestigious institutions including Penland School of Craft, Haystack Mountain School for Crafts, and the 92nd St Y in NYC.

Professor Massey serves on the Board of Trustees for the Enamelist Society (2017-2023) and was previously on the Board of Directors for the Society of North American Goldsmiths (2012-2015). Her scholarly work has been featured in publications including American Craft and Metalsmith magazines, The Art of Enameling, and multiple editions of Art Jewelry Today.
