Nancy Slagle is an Associate Professor of Jewelry Design and Metalsmithing and Associate Director of the School of Art at Texas Tech University. She holds a BFA from Drake University and an MFA from Indiana University: Bloomington.
Her research interests focus on contemporary jewelry design, metalsmithing techniques, and the intersection of craft with fine art. Her work explores themes of containment, materiality, and cultural symbolism, exemplified by her nationally exhibited pieces and museum acquisitions.
Slagle’s artwork has been collected by prestigious institutions including the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the Victoria and Albert Museum (London), and the Art Institute of Chicago. Her work has been featured in publications such as Metalsmith Magazine, American Craft, and The New York Times.
In 1988, she received a National Endowment for the Arts Individual Artist Grant. Her career spans over three decades of exhibitions since 1987, with notable works like the "Single Serving Tea Pot" acquired by the Art Institute of Chicago for its permanent collection.
As Associate Director of the School of Art, she contributes to administrative leadership and curriculum development, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration in the arts.
