Rick Smith is a Professor of Metalsmithing and Blacksmithing at Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIUC), where he has served since 1997. He earned his MFA from SIUC in 1992 and oversees the university's Blacksmithing program while maintaining an active artistic practice. His work emphasizes forge welding techniques and is featured in the Arkansas Arts Center's Decorative Arts Museum.
Smith has taught at prestigious institutions such as Penland School of Crafts and Haystack Mountain School of Crafts.
