Professor Tom Montenegro-Johnson is a mathematician at the University of Warwick's Mathematics Institute and Deputy Director of the Centre for Applications of Mathematical and Computing Sciences (CAMaCS). His research focuses on interdisciplinary applications of mathematics to complex systems, including soft microscale devices, human urban mobility in extreme weather, and sustainable development. He collaborates with scientists in Chemistry, Biology, Engineering, and behavioral science.
His methodologies include asymptotic analysis, partial differential equations, agent-based modelling, and machine learning. He leads the 'Soft Mathematics Group' and holds a Leverhulme Trust Research Leadership Award until 2026. His work extends to public engagement, including a permanent exhibit at the Birmingham Science Museum and collaborations with the entertainment industry.
Current group members include postdocs Haoran Ni, Kat Phillips, Daniel Booth, Ellen Jolley, and Joe Webber, and PhD student Xietao Wang-Lin. Former members have secured academic and research roles at institutions like the University of Birmingham and the University of Manchester.
