Tom Lockhart is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Psychology at the University of Portsmouth, part of the Faculty of Science and Health. He holds roles in the School of Psychology, Sport and Health Sciences and is affiliated with the Institute of Life Sciences and Healthcare and the Centre for Integrated Health and Wellbeing. Previously, he worked as a part-time lecturer at the University of Portsmouth and held deputy program leader responsibilities at Arden University.
He completed his PhD on the electroencephalographic (EEG) correlates of the behavioral inhibition system at the University of Portsmouth. His research focuses on Reinforcement Sensitivity Theory, applying neurological methods like EEG to study anxiety, personality, and decision-making. Collaborations include work with the University of Otago (anxiety biomarkers), Universities of Winchester and Milan (comparative personality models), and the West Midlands Fire Service (victim responses to fire).
Teaching roles include module coordination for Psychology Work Placement and Introduction to the Human World, guest lecturing on Perspectives in Psychology, and undergraduate dissertation supervision. Past responsibilities included coordinating research methods, data analysis, and biological psychology modules.
