Dr. Ana Gheorghiu is a Senior Lecturer in Psychology at the University of Portsmouth, affiliated with the Faculty of Science & Health and the School of Psychology, Sport and Health Sciences. She is also part of the International Centre for Research in Forensic Psychology. Her research focuses on social psychology, moral decision-making, forensic psychology, and the impact of facial impressions on science communication. She holds a PhD from the University of Essex (2017), following a BSc (2013) and MSc (2014) in Psychology from the same institution.

Research Interests: Dr. Gheorghiu investigates how first impressions influence moral judgments, particularly in forensic contexts. Her work explores the psychological mechanisms behind prosocial behavior, science communication biases, and the role of social comparisons in perceptions of affluence and victimhood.
Teaching & Supervision: She teaches modules on quantitative data analysis and supervises final-year students in Psychology and Forensic Psychology. She coordinates the Level 5 Quantitative Data Analysis module.
Recent Research Themes: Her articles address moral dilemmas (e.g., sacrificial decisions), the role of facial appearance in science credibility, and the emotional dynamics of victim blaming. She has published in journals like Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin and Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
Affiliations: She serves as the REF Lead for UoA4 (Psychology, Psychiatry & Neuroscience) and contributes to interdisciplinary teams in forensic psychology research.
