Tom Groot is Professor of Management Accounting at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, where he serves as head of the Department of Accounting and director of ARCA (Amsterdam Research Center in Accounting). He holds leadership roles in several academic committees including the Zijlstra Center and Compliance and Integrity program.
His research examines performance measurement, management control systems, financial management in nonprofit organizations, cost systems, and control mechanisms for interorganizational alliances. He teaches courses in management accounting across bachelor's and master's programs, including Performance Management and Control and Advanced Management Accounting.
Significant honors include the Limperg penning (2024), Public Finance Award (2006), and Distinguished International Lecturer in Accounting (2000).
