معرفی
Dr. Tobias Meng is a prominent theoretical solid-state physicist at the Technical University Dresden (TU Dresden), where he leads the Emmy Noether Junior Research Group 'Quantum Design' since 2017. His research group examines the physics of interacting electrons in quantum materials and is part of the Collaborative Research Center CRC 1143 and the Würzburg-Dresden Cluster of Excellence ct.qmat. Funded by the Emmy Noether programme of the Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft, his work has earned him Germany's most prestigious award for early career scientists, the Heinz Maier-Leibnitz Prize 2022.
Dr. Meng's research focuses on the fundamental properties of quantum materials across various scales, from nanostructures to macroscopic materials. His work explores how electrons organize themselves collectively to produce 'emergent behavior' - phenomena where the whole system exhibits properties greater than the sum of its individual components. His research spans topological physics, superconductivity, quantum criticality, and transport phenomena in quantum materials.
Analysis of his publications reveals a strong focus on topological materials and quantum anomalies, with significant contributions to understanding the behavior of electrons in Weyl semimetals, heavy-fermion systems, and topological insulators. His research combines theoretical approaches with experimental collaborations to uncover fundamental quantum phenomena that could enable future quantum technologies.

Dr. Meng actively mentors several PhD students including Toni Ehmcke, Konstantinos Ladovrechis, and Chen Xu, continuing a strong tradition of academic supervision. His research is supported by the Emmy Noether programme and collaborations within the ct.qmat Cluster of Excellence. The Quantum Design group maintains active collaborations with multiple research groups including Hicks, Mackenzie, Molenkamp, Felser, King, and others across various quantum research domains.
The Quantum Design group operates within the vibrant quantum research ecosystem at TU Dresden, contributing to Germany's leadership in quantum materials research. Their work bridges theoretical predictions with experimental verification, often involving international collaborations across Europe and beyond.
