Jochen Geck is a Full Professor (W3) for the Physics of Quantum Materials at the Technical University Dresden, Germany, where he has been employed since September 2016. He also serves as the Managing Director of the IFMP since April 2019, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Physics, and Senator of TU Dresden since January 2025. Previously, he was a Full Professor for Condensed Matter Physics at the Paris-Lodron University of Salzburg (2015-2016) and has maintained a group leader position at the IFW Dresden since 2014.
His research focuses on condensed matter physics, particularly quantum materials, topological materials, magnetism, and superconductivity. He employs advanced experimental techniques including synchrotron radiation studies to investigate electronic structure, magnetic properties, and phase transitions in complex materials. His work often explores how materials can be controlled and manipulated to harness new physical phenomena for technological applications.
His recent publications reveal a strong focus on quantum spin liquids (particularly in α-RuCl3), topological materials, chiral magnets, and electronic ordering phenomena. His research spans from fundamental investigations of quantum phases to potential applications in energy conversion and information processing. Many of his studies employ pressure as a tuning parameter to explore phase diagrams and quantum critical points.

As Principal Investigator, Professor Geck leads the Cluster of Excellence Complexity and Topology in Quantum Materials since 2019 and the Collaborative Research Center SFB 1143 'Correlated Magnetism: From Frustration to Topology' since 2015. His research has been supported by numerous third-party funding projects from the German Research Foundation and international collaborations. He is actively involved in the scientific community as a local conference chair for the Deutsche Physikalische Gesellschaft (Sektion Kondensierte Materie).
Professor Geck's work is centered around the Institute for Solid State and Materials Physics at TU Dresden, where he leads research groups investigating quantum materials using synchrotron radiation techniques. His research is closely connected with the cluster of excellence ct.qmat, which brings together researchers from Dresden and Würzburg to study topological quantum matter.
