Tobias Jakobi

Tobias Jakobi is a Researcher and study program coordinator at the Department of Political Science, Faculty of Social Sciences, Georg-August-University Göttingen. He has been working at the Chair of Comparative Politics and Political Economy under Professor Andreas Busch since August 2008, and has served as program coordinator for political science since winter semester 2012/13.

Dr. Jakobi was born in 1972 in Neustadt an der Weinstraße. He studied political science, medieval and modern history, and public law at the University of Heidelberg and the University of Kentucky (Lexington, KY, USA), receiving his Master of Arts in 2000. He completed his doctorate at the University of Marburg in June 2007.

Dr. Jakobi's research focuses on comparative policy analysis, with particular emphasis on regulatory policy, internet governance, and European political systems. His work examines how states and societies regulate emerging technologies and information systems, with special attention to privacy, data protection, and digital governance. He has conducted extensive research on network policy, e-government, and the role of international organizations like the OECD in shaping national policy-making processes. His comparative approach spans Western European political systems, with Germany as a primary case study. His current research includes a habilitation thesis on regulatory policy.

His recent publications demonstrate a clear trend toward analyzing the intersection of technology, governance, and policy-making. His work shows increasing focus on digital governance, internet policy, and regulatory challenges in the information age.
