Ting Xu is a Professor of Chemistry & Materials Science and Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley. Her research integrates principles from polymer science, de novo protein design, and nanotechnology to create functional nanostructured materials with biological, electrical, and magnetic properties.
- Education: B.S. from Dalian University of Technology (1996), M.S. from Changchun Institute of Applied Chemistry (1999), Ph.D. from University of Massachusetts, Amherst (2004), and postdoctoral training at University of Pennsylvania and NIST's Cold Neutron for Biology and Technology (2004-2007).
Her work addresses the challenge of achieving molecular-level order through self-assembly of block copolymers, conjugated molecules, and nanoparticles, inspired by natural protein design simplicity and robustness. Current projects focus on multi-length-scale hierarchical structures and functional thin films.
Scientific accolades include the Camille-Dreyfus Scholar-Teacher Award (2011), ONR Young Investigator Award (2009), and recognition as 'Brilliant 10' by Popular Science (2009). She has received research grants from DuPont, 3M, and Li Ka Shing.
- Laboratory: Located at 381 HMMB (Headquarters, Materials, and Mineral Building) with lab phone (510) 643-6804.
