John J. Battles

John J. Battles is a Professor at the University of California, Berkeley, affiliated with the Department of Environmental Science, Policy, & Management. His research focuses on forest ecology and ecosystem dynamics, emphasizing quantitative field studies to understand how forests respond to disturbances like wildfires, climate change, and anthropogenic pressures. He leads the Battles Lab, part of the Ecosystem Sciences Research Group, and collaborates with initiatives such as the Sierra Nevada Adaptive Management Project (SNAMP) and the Hubbard Brook Ecosystem Study.
