Based at the City Campus, he leads research in clinical microbiology with focus on host-pathogen interactions and diagnostic innovation.
His educational background includes a PhD in Clinical Sciences (Immunology and Microbiology, 2020) from the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine and Malawi-Liverpool-Wellcome Trust, an MSc in Medical Microbiology (2015), and HBMLS (2011) from the University of Zimbabwe.
Dr. Nyazika's research spans Medical Microbiology, Immunology, and Immunometabolism, with specific expertise in pneumococcal pathogenesis, cryptococcal meningitis, and controlled human infection models. His work examines host-pathogen dynamics in lung infections, nasal mucosa viral interactions, and fungal epidemiology using human challenge models and clinical trials across Africa and Europe.
His publication portfolio shows strong emphasis on pneumococcal carriage dynamics (60% of recent works), HIV-pathogen interactions (25%), and cryptococcal diagnostics (15%). Key trends include vaccine efficacy testing in African populations and antimicrobial resistance patterns in immunocompromised hosts.
He actively supervises doctoral researchers, inviting PhD inquiries via his institutional email. His global health contributions include co-authoring the 2024 Lancet Infectious Diseases Global Guideline for Cryptococcosis Management.
Professional experience spans Zimbabwe, Netherlands, Malawi, and UK with involvement in clinical trials for HIV, Rotavirus, Influenza, Cryptococcal meningitis, Pneumococcus, and TB. His work bridges laboratory research with field applications in resource-limited settings.
