Overview
Associate Professor Tina Skinner-Adams is an academic at Griffith University's School of Environment and Science, specializing in parasite biology and drug discovery. She holds positions in the Institute for Biomedicine and Glycomics and leads the Parasite Biology Laboratory. Her research focuses on malaria and Giardia parasites, with over 100 publications and an H-index of 42. She has attracted over $6 million in research funding, including NHMRC grants, and trained 20 Honours and 29 RHD students.
Education
- PhD in Biology, University of Western Australia (1995–2000)
- Graduate Diploma of Education (Secondary), Queensland University of Technology (2011–2014)
- Bachelor of Science (Honours), Murdoch University (1990–1994)
Research Interests
Her work spans anti-parasitic drug discovery, with a focus on Plasmodium falciparum (malaria) and Giardia duodenalis. She investigates drug resistance mechanisms, novel compound development, and epigenetic modulation in parasites. Recent efforts include slow-action anti-malarial compounds and combination therapies for drug-resistant Giardiasis.
