معرفی
Professor Katherine Andrews is a leading academic in malaria research and drug discovery at Griffith University, Australia. She holds a Professorial appointment in the School of Environment and Science (Bioscience Department) and leads the Tropical Parasitology Lab within the Institute for Biomedicine and Glycomics. Her research focuses on discovering new antimalarial drugs, elucidating mechanisms of existing drugs like proguanil, and combating drug resistance. She is also a passionate STEM advocate, founding the That's RAD! Science project to inspire young children through science-themed books.
Education: PhD (Griffith University, 1998), BSc Honours (Griffith University, 1992), and a Graduate Certificate in Education (University of Queensland, 2015).
Research Interests: Malaria drug discovery, parasite biology, histone deacetylase inhibitors, proguanil mechanism, and STEM education outreach. Recent articles highlight advances in drug leads targeting Plasmodium, novel drug combinations, and diagnostic probes. Her work bridges chemistry, biology, and clinical applications.
Awards: Distinguished Fellow of the Australian Association of von Humboldt Fellows, Queensland Women of Influence Award, and multiple research excellence awards. She has secured over AUD 10 million in grants, including NHMRC and ARC funding.
Supervision/Grants: Mentor to over 20 doctoral and master’s students. Ongoing grants focus on drug discovery pipelines, malaria drug resistance, and imaging technologies. She chairs initiatives like Compounds Australia, advancing drug discovery infrastructure.
Labs/Teams: Griffith Institute for Drug Discovery, Institute for Biomedicine and Glycomics, and collaborations with global institutions like Monash University and Heinrich Heine University.
