Dr Carlo Giannangelo is a Research Fellow in the Department of Drug Delivery Disposition & Dynamics at Monash University. His work focuses on leveraging metabolomics and proteomics to understand Plasmodium falciparum biology and develop novel antimalarial therapies. He holds a Bachelor of Pharmacy from the University of Queensland (2008) and has contributed to over 13 peer-reviewed publications since 2016.
**Research Focus**: Giannangelo’s research combines systems biology techniques to uncover mechanisms of action and resistance in malaria therapeutics. Key areas include PfATP4 targeting, aminopeptidase inhibition, and ozonide drug mechanisms. His work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being).
**Awards**: He has received multiple accolades, including the ANZMN Travel Award (2015), Australian Society for Parasitology Student Travel Grant (2016), and RSTMH Early Career Grant (2022). These recognize his contributions to malaria research.
**Grants & Leadership**: As Primary Chief Investigator of the 2025–2027 project *Discovery of New Antimalarials with a Novel Mechanism of Action*, he leads a multidisciplinary team. He also chairs the EMCR Committee and organizes events like *Malaria in Melbourne*.
**Collaborations**: Active in global malaria research networks, Giannangelo collaborates with institutions worldwide, including the WHO Collaborating Centre for Malaria Research.
