Timothy Wientzen is an Associate Professor and Chair of the English Department at Skidmore College. He holds a B.A. from Boston College and a Ph.D. from Duke University. His research focuses on the intersection of science and politics in literary modernism, particularly examining how early 20th-century literature anticipates contemporary ecological and political challenges. He has authored Automatic: Literary Modernism and the Politics of Reflex (2021) and is preparing a critical edition of Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World. His teaching includes courses on modernism, science fiction, and climate crisis narratives.

Research interests span British and global modernism, early science fiction, environmental humanities, and the theory of the novel. His work explores modernist formal experimentation in relation to scientific discourses like reflex theory, public relations, and ecology. Recent publications analyze Olaf Stapledon, Rebecca West, and James Joyce, among others.
His courses reflect interdisciplinary engagement, including Shocked: World War I and Modern Culture and Meltdown: Literature and the Climate Crisis. Ongoing projects emphasize modernism’s relevance to contemporary environmental and sociopolitical issues.
