Robert Spencer is a Lecturer in English and American Studies at The University of Manchester. His research focuses on modernist, postcolonial, and world literatures from a materialist perspective, with particular attention to the climate crisis and utopian ecological representations. He contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to climate action and global partnerships. Spencer teaches courses on postcolonial literature, modernism, and cultural theory, including 'World Literature and Climate Crisis' at the undergraduate level and graduate seminars on modernism and postcolonial theory.
His publications include books on African dictator fictions, postcolonial humanism, and co-authored works on British writing from empire to Brexit. Recent research explores intersections between literature and environmental crises. He is affiliated with the 'Creative Manchester' research platform.
