Dr. Timothy Owen is an Assistant Professor and Regular Attending Staff at Kingston Health Sciences Centre. His clinical expertise focuses on stereotactic lung CNS radiotherapy and the education of medical students and residents. His research emphasizes advancing stereotactic radiotherapy techniques, particularly in stage I non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and brain metastases management. He leads the LUSTRE trial comparing stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) with conventional hypofractionated radiotherapy (CRT), and has contributed to population-based studies on NSCLC treatment patterns in Ontario.
Key research themes include long-term toxicity analysis of radiotherapy protocols, risk factors for intracranial metastasis in NSCLC, and outcomes of hypofractionated treatments. His work extends to transplantation medicine, exploring low-dose aspirin’s role in preventing allograft rejection and IVIG/steroid therapies for immune-related complications. Dr. Owen has also analyzed arterial conduit management in liver transplants and surgical complication economics in hepatopancreaticobiliary surgeries.
Publications span over 30 years, with recent focus on SBRT credentialing, brain metastasis outcomes, and radiation therapy optimization. His contributions bridge clinical practice, translational research, and healthcare policy, aiming to improve cancer treatment efficacy and patient safety.
