Timothy McAllister is an International Visiting Professor of Saxophone at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM). He is a renowned classical saxophonist, member of the GRAMMY®-winning PRISM Quartet, and a leading interpreter of contemporary music. McAllister has collaborated with over 40 orchestras globally, including the BBC Symphony, Los Angeles Philharmonic, and Sydney Symphony. His career highlights include premiering John Adams’ Saxophone Concerto (2013) and performing in the Pulitzer Prize-winning Adagio (For Wadada Leo Smith) (2024).
Notable awards include the 2018 GRAMMY® (PRISM Quartet), recognition for his recording of RUSH (Kenneth Fuchs), and soloist roles in groundbreaking works like Corigliano’s Triathlon (2022). Upcoming projects include the world premiere of Adolphus Hailstork’s Concerto for Alto Saxophone and String Orchestra (2025) and Steven Mackey’s Anemology.
His research interests span contemporary classical saxophone performance, orchestral collaboration, and expanding the instrument’s repertoire. McAllister’s discography includes over 40 albums, with releases on Nonesuch, ECM, and NAXOS.
