Timothy Long is a Professor of Opera and Artistic and Music Director of Opera at the Eastman School of Music, University of Rochester. He is a Muscogee Nation citizen from the Thlopthlocco Tribal Town with Choctaw heritage. His career spans conducting, composing, and piano performance across prestigious institutions like the Metropolitan Opera, Mostly Mozart Festival, and Wolf Trap Opera.
His research interests focus on operatic performance, Indigenous cultural representation in music, and promoting underrepresented artists through initiatives like The Plimpton Foundation. Notable conducting engagements include world premieres such as Missing (2017), blending Gitxsan and English languages, and operas by Anthony Davis. He has collaborated with renowned orchestras including the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia and the Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra.
Tim’s recordings include Alburnum (2022), Beauty Intolerable (2021), and works by Dominick Argento. His performances emphasize cross-cultural storytelling and modern interpretations of classical traditions. He resides in Rochester and Montclair with his husband and their basset hound.
