Stephanie Baer

Stephanie Baer is Professor of Viola and Chamber Music at New York University, where she also serves as Director of String Studies. An accomplished performer, she maintains an active career as orchestral musician and chamber artist with groups including the Metamorphosis Piano Quartet. She has performed with major ensembles including the Orchestra of St. Luke's, Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra, and as principal violist for Broadway's Phantom of the Opera.

Her educational background includes BM and MM degrees from Mannes College of Music. Performance credits span:

• Chamber music tours in Europe, Asia, and Africa
• Principal violist at Carmel Bach Festival
• Recordings with Philip Glass, John Adams, and Steve Reich

Honors include the prestigious C.B. Jackson Master's Award from Tanglewood and Diploma of Honor from Italy's Academia Chigiana. She has taught at Bard College and Vassar College prior to joining NYU.
