Mark Holloway is a Professor of Practice in Viola at the Jacobs School of Music, Indiana University Bloomington, and a core member of the Pacifica Quartet. As an artist of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, he maintains an active international performance career spanning major festivals and orchestras worldwide.
His educational background includes:
- Bachelor of Music (B.M.), summa cum laude, Boston University (studied with Michelle LaCourse)
- Diploma, Curtis Institute of Music (studied with Michael Tree)
Holloway's artistic focus centers on chamber music, particularly string quartet and viola performance. He is dedicated to advancing the field through extensive concertizing, specializing in both classical and contemporary repertoire with emphasis on collaborative artistry and technical excellence.
His performance history features principal violist roles at Tanglewood and the New York String Orchestra, alongside guest appearances with the New York Philharmonic, Orpheus, Metropolitan Opera, Boston Symphony, and Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia. Recordings appear on Marlboro Recording Society, CMS Live, Music@Menlo LIVE, Naxos, and Albany labels.
Holloway regularly performs at global festivals including Marlboro, Music@Menlo, Ravinia, Banff, and international venues across Europe and the Americas—from Musikdorf Ernen in Switzerland to the Cartagena International Music Festival. Recent highlights include a Live From Lincoln Center broadcast and collaborations with the Israeli Chamber Project and Emerald City Music.
