Ida Bryhn is a Professor of Viola at the Royal College of Music's Strings faculty. Born in Oslo, she is recognized as a profiled young artist in Norwegian musical life and serves as principal violist in the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra while regularly performing as guest principal with Amsterdam Sinfonietta, Royal Stockholm Philharmonic, Camerata Nordica, Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, and Norwegian Radio Orchestra.
Professor Bryhn maintains an active international performance schedule, appearing as soloist and chamber musician throughout Europe and the United States. She performs regularly at major festivals including Bergen International Festival, Oslo Chamber Music Festival, Risør Chamber Music Festival, Røros Winter Chamber Music Festival, and Ultima Oslo Contemporary Music Festival in Norway, as well as Verbier festival, Ravinia festival, IMS Prussia Cove open Chamber Music, and Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival internationally.
Her research and performance interests focus on Viola Performance, Chamber Music, Classical Music Performance, and Music Education. Professor Bryhn has recorded chamber music works of Mozart and Brahms and is preparing to launch a new CD on the Norwegian Grammy Award winning label 2L.
Professor Bryhn has established significant artistic collaborations with renowned musicians including Leif Ove Andsnes, Isabelle Faust, Anner Bylsma, Truls Mørk, Thorleif Theden, Vilde Frang, Phillippe Graffin and Andreas Brantelid, and has performed with ensembles such as the Rasumovsky Ensemble, Diamant Ensemble in Copenhagen, Oslo String Quartet and Vertavo String Quartet.
As an educator, she teaches students at the Norwegian State Academy and Barratt Dues Music Institution in Oslo, provides master classes at Gothenburg University, and participates in The Transposition Project in Vietnam: a musical and social education program in Hanoi.
